SOPA is back → torrentfreak.com

sanityscraps:

nothing-rhymes-with-ianto:

anticapitalist:

That was fast.

A few days ago the news broke that the pending Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) was put on hold until consensus was reached.

Although the announcement was rather vague, some news sites and blogs declared SOPA dead, or “shelved,” or erased from history.

Wishful thinking, because today SOPA is back in full force.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith just announced that the SOPA markup is expected to continue next month.

“To enact legislation that protects consumers, businesses and jobs from foreign thieves who steal America’s intellectual property, we will continue to bring together industry representatives and Members to find ways to combat online piracy,” Chairman Smith said.

“Due to the Republican and Democratic retreats taking place over the next two weeks, markup of the Stop Online Piracy Act is expected to resume in February.

“I am committed to continuing to work with my colleagues in the House and Senate to send a bipartisan bill to the White House that saves American jobs and protects intellectual property.”

Fuck you, Lamar Smith.

FUCK.

If at first you don’t succeed, keep pushing the same crap until people give up and let it by….or you suddenly dissapear, probably killed by a member of the Brotherhood of Assassins….just sayin’

Of course, no such thing exists so instead we just hope that they eventually croak of old age or loose their job somehow…

A Thought

We think of the universe in mathematical terms. Everything we know is quantifiable with numbers which gets used every empirical science to validate what we already know and discover more about the universe.

What if, somewhere on another world, there is a completely alien species that doesn’t think in terms of mathematics. What if they thought of their world as literature and used books and words to understand their world, or philosophy, or religion, or really anything else besides math.

Think about other ways to look at and understand the universe because science is already out there, no matter if you know the Earth is moving in a straight line through curved space-time around the Sun or that you think a magical chariot draws the sun across the sky every day, there’s still day and night.

Just a thought.
